Azzahra and Airra, twin sisters born at 33 weeks of gestation, each weighing just over 1.9 kilograms, began their lives fighting significant health challenges.
As preterm babies, Azzahra and Airra faced the trials of prematurity.
The L&M Foundation and its partner Aisyiyah Central Board supported twins through their critical first 1000 days. Initially, the twins were incredibly fragile, requiring breathing assistance via medical tubes, and had difficulty engaging in the active movements typical of infants their age. Their ability to breastfeed was compromised due to their underdeveloped strength. They were diagnosed with moderate asphyxia shortly after their premature birth.
Thanks to the life-saving interventions provided by the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) supported by L&M Foundation, both Azzahra and Airra have made remarkable strides in their development. Our comprehensive care included:
Today, Azzahra and Airra no longer depend on medical tubes for breathing. They have gained weight, and their length is now within normal standards for their age. Their fine and gross motor skills have flourished, as has their ability to actively breastfeed.
Beyond the twins' physical health, the psychosocial well-being of their mother and family has improved significantly. Empowered with knowledge and support, they are now equipped to care for the twins independently, celebrating each milestone in the twins' journey.
The story of Azzahra and Airra is outcome of the L&M Foundation's commitment to preterm babies and their families. It illustrates the transformative power of early intervention and the importance of holistic care during the first 1000 days of life. With ongoing support from our donors and partners, we can continue to offer a beacon of hope to more families like theirs, nurturing the growth and development of every child entrusted to our care.
