Eldho was born preterm during the 24th week of gestation and weighed a mere 740 grams at birth. The medical diagnosis at NICU revealed that he was suffering from severe respiratory distress and his lungs were hyperventilated, a common complication in preterm births which could potentially lead to death.

This situation affected his mother, leading her to depression. Eldho received extensive support from L&M Foundation which has been instrumental in his development and recovery.

Support provided to Eldho by the L&M Foundation’s project team included:

  • Early intervention with diagnosis and provision of life saving medicines to address his immediate health challenges particularly those aimed at stabilizing his respiratory condition.
  • Essential micronutrient support designed to meet his developmental requirements such gaining age-appropriate weight and height.
  • L&M Foundation offered tailored counselling and psychosocial support to his mother and family members aimed at helping them to cope with the challenges and stress associated with caring for a preterm baby.

Positive outcomes observed:

Medical and psychosocial support provided to Eldho and his family has led to significant positive outcomes.

Today, at the age of 2 years, Eldho weighs a healthy 12 kg, showcasing a remarkable recovery. He has also attained developmental milestones appropriate for his age—he can stand and walk without support and has begun to utter a few words.

These milestones are particularly noteworthy considering the challenges associated with preterm birth.

Eldho's mother, who has been an integral part of his recovery journey, is now active and happy, witnessing her child's progress. Her well-being reflects the overall positive impact of the support on the family's life by L&M Foundation.

At L&M Foundation, we believe that cases like Eldho's highlight the importance of hospital-based interventions about the needs and care for preterm children.
